Fitbit challenges with friends

Fitbit retired Challenges and Adventures in 2023. Connect Fitbit to Outmuscle Me and run private step and workout challenges with friends on any device.

Any Fitbit that syncs to the Fitbit app: Charge, Inspire, Versa, Sense, and Pixel Watch.

Setup

Connect once. That is the job.

1

Connect

Open Settings in the app, choose Fitbit and sign in to your Fitbit account once.

2

Train as usual

Every activity Fitbit records is sent over on its own. Nothing to export, nothing to type, nothing to remember on the way out of the gym.

3

Watch it score

Each sport carries a coefficient, so a kilometre on the road and twenty minutes under a bar are each worth what you would expect — on your own board and in every challenge you are in.

What syncs

Everything Fitbit records,
under its own name.

Runs, rides, swims and walks land as distance. Gym sessions, yoga and sports land as minutes. Each arrives under the sport it was, so a challenge can count exactly the ones you choose.

Your daily step total syncs on its own, so a step challenge needs nothing from you but the walking.

Challenges

Set the terms. Settle it.

A challenge is private until you hand out the code. You pick the sports, the dates and what each is worth; Fitbit does the reporting, and the board settles the rest.

  • Runs, rides, swims, gym time — count one sport or all of them.

  • Friends on any watch or phone are scored by the same rules.

  • Nothing is typed in, so nothing is rounded up.

Questions

Asked about Fitbit

Fitbit removed Challenges and Adventures. Does this bring them back?

Not the Fitbit ones — Google retired Challenges and Adventures, open groups and trophies on 27 March 2023 and they are gone. What you get here is the part that mattered: a private challenge with the people you choose, steps and workouts counted from your Fitbit on their own, and a leaderboard that settles it.

Which Fitbit activities count?

Runs and treadmill runs, bike rides and spinning, walks and hikes, swims, skiing and snowboarding, tennis, yoga, pilates and martial arts, each under its own name. Weights, circuits, intervals and anything Fitbit files under Workout arrive as gym minutes.

Do my Fitbit steps count?

Yes. Your daily total comes over on its own and a step challenge takes it from there. Workouts arrive separately under their own sport, so a challenge can count steps, runs or both.

Does it work with Pixel Watch?

Yes. A Pixel Watch records into the Fitbit app, and the Fitbit account is what you connect.

Can friends without a Fitbit join the same challenge?

Yes. Each person connects whatever they have — a Garmin, a Fitbit, a Wahoo, a Suunto, an Apple Watch or just a phone — and every activity is scored by the same rules, so a kilometre is worth the same kilometre whoever ran it.

Is the Fitbit integration free?

Yes. The athlete app is free, and so is connecting a device. Coaches pay for their workspace; the people they coach do not.
