Android challenges with friends

Workouts and steps from any Android phone or watch reach Outmuscle Me through Health Connect, nothing typed in, and score into private challenges with friends.

Android phones, Galaxy Watch, Pixel Watch and any app that writes to Health Connect.

Setup

Connect once. That is the job.

1

Connect

Open Settings in the app, choose Health Connect and allow exercise and steps when Android asks. There is no account to sign in to.

2

Train as usual

Every activity Health Connect records is sent over on its own. Nothing to export, nothing to type, nothing to remember on the way out of the gym.

3

Watch it score

Each sport carries a coefficient, so a kilometre on the road and twenty minutes under a bar are each worth what you would expect — on your own board and in every challenge you are in.

What syncs

Everything Health Connect records,
under its own name.

Runs, rides, swims and walks land as distance. Gym sessions, yoga and sports land as minutes. Each arrives under the sport it was, so a challenge can count exactly the ones you choose.

Daily steps come from Health Connect, whichever app or watch is counting them.

Challenges

Set the terms. Settle it.

A challenge is private until you hand out the code. You pick the sports, the dates and what each is worth; Health Connect does the reporting, and the board settles the rest.

  • Runs, rides, swims, gym time — count one sport or all of them.

  • Friends on any watch or phone are scored by the same rules.

  • Nothing is typed in, so nothing is rounded up.

Questions

Asked about Health Connect

Does Outmuscle Me work with Galaxy Watch?

Yes. Samsung Health writes your workouts and steps to Health Connect, and the app reads them from there once you allow it. The same goes for a Pixel Watch through the Fitbit app.

What is Health Connect?

Android's shared health store. Every fitness app on the phone can write to it and, with your permission, read from it. Outmuscle Me only reads exercise sessions and steps, and you can take that permission away in Android settings at any time.

Which workouts count?

Runs, walks and hikes, rides, swims, rows, skiing and snowboarding measured in distance. Strength training and weightlifting arrive as gym minutes, and yoga, HIIT, pilates, martial arts, climbing, tennis, football, basketball, dancing, jump rope and stretching under their own names.

Can friends on iPhone join the same challenge?

Yes. Each person connects whatever they have — a Garmin, a Fitbit, a Wahoo, a Suunto, an Apple Watch or just a phone — and every activity is scored by the same rules, so a kilometre is worth the same kilometre whoever ran it.

Do I still have to log anything by hand?

Not what the watch records. Push ups, pull ups and anything else it does not time you can say out loud in the app or type in, and it counts the same as a synced session.

Is the Health Connect integration free?

Yes. The athlete app is free, and so is connecting a device. Coaches pay for their workspace; the people they coach do not.
